When Josh Rivas reached out to us for a new set of portraits, we were thrilled. Why? Josh always brings style, fun and the most engaging expressions to every shoot. He never disappoints, and his Destination Cityscape Session was no different.

Here’s the who, what and why behind Josh’s recent shoot in Downtown L.A.

Meet Josh Rivas

As Owner of Tribute Beauty Lounge in Newhall, Josh Rivas brings high-end hair and makeup services and celebrity styling experience to Santa Clarita – without sacrificing the personal relationships you’d expect from your neighborhood salon. He understands more than just hair and makeup. By working with the client to reveal what they truly want, Josh knows how to make you feel more confident than ever with every cut, color or makeup look.

“My approach is to learn your favorite features, so I can highlight them with the style of your cut,” Josh explained. “I want to know what you love about yourself, so I can make you shine so bright you don’t see anything else. And what I love about Lindsay is she does the same thing with her camera as I do with my scissors.”

Behind the Scenes: Destination Cityscapes

When it came time for some updated portraits, Josh wanted to capture his personality in a unique and captivating way.

“We knew a Cityscapes Session would be perfect for him because he already has a gorgeous set of traditional in-studio headshots, so we wanted to create more of a lifestyle marketing look this time,” explained Lindsay Schlick, Co-owner and Lead Photographer at SchlickArt Photography & Video in Santa Clarita. “Since Josh is getting more requests for his services in the Los Angeles area, we decided to use Downtown L.A. as the backdrop.”

In a typical Cityscapes Session, Lindsay captures local professionals against Santa Clarita backdrops, using Westfield Valencia Town Center and Downtown Newhall as her photography playground. This helps brand Santa Clarita executives as local experts and community leaders.

With Josh’s session, however, Lindsay applied the same strategy to work for his Los Angeles audience. The result was a stunning, expertly styled shoot with L.A. as the backdrop.

Josh’s Tip: Trust The Process

Like a fresh new cut and color, the experience of having professional portraits taken gave Josh a new wave of confidence.

“When other people take pictures of me, they don’t see the same angles that Lindsay sees. They don’t know how to capture my real personality or most flattering angles. So I look at pictures of me, and sometimes, it makes me feel terrible. But when Lindsay takes a photo of me, she knows how to capture what other people are really seeing in me, and I feel so confident.”

By posing you from head to toe, and then making you laugh, Lindsay strategically captures the real you – no modeling experience required.

“When she poses you, it might feel awkward or different, but when you see the pictures, you look so natural and relaxed. You just have to trust the process, and trust her eye, because she can see the real you.”

And that was really the goal of Josh’s Destination Cityscape Session.

“I wanted to capture my true personality and just feel good while doing it,” Josh explained. “Looking at the photos, I felt attractive because she captured the features and qualities other people say they see in me – but now I could see it for myself.”

About Lindsay’s Marketing Photography

With the mind of a businesswoman and the heart of an adventurer, Lindsay began to conceive of a different kind of Santa Clarita photography business. In her vision, stepping in front of the camera could be an empowering experience that gave her clients more than just a photograph — it would give people a new way of seeing themselves. With an eye for seeing the beauty in life and in others, Lindsay could use the camera to spread beauty.
