We get the privilege of hearing incredible stories from women and mothers every year through the video interview portion of our Signature SchlickArt Experiences. And every year, we’re in awe of their powerful messages, courageous vulnerability and inspirational perspectives.

In short, the women of SchlickArt are full of wisdom

They teach us about life, family, self-worth and overcoming obstacles, to say the least. They show us how to love harder and live better. And most of all, they give us a fresh perspective that should be celebrated, remembered and cherished.

That’s why we wanted to share some of their best words with you today.

Life Lessons From The Moms Of SchlickArt

Fresh Perspectives

If (our children) learn nothing else but just how to love on one another, even when it’s hard, that will change our family. If that’s all we can learn how to do together, just to be kind to one another, that makes an impact on the world.” – Andrea

“I want future Lisa to know: ‘I knew you could do it. Don’t ever listen to those who doubt you, who call you names, who tell you that you can’t or shouldn’t do something. Enjoy the things you like to do, and be glad you did it – no regrets.’” – Lisa

“I’ve been lying in a hospital bed not knowing what’s gonna happen. Sometimes it takes something tragic to hit you upside the head and show you what’s important. You just have to live in the moment. You have to find something positive – no matter what’s going on in your life – there is hope.” – Bonnie

Motherhood

If you have the courage to do that, it can change you.” – Andrea

“We’re very proud of all our kids, and we’d like you guys to remember we’re 80 years old now. We’d like you to keep in touch. Pick up the phone and say hi.” – Rita

“It wasn’t one [happiest moment of my life] it was four – each one of my girls, and when my granddaughter was born because that gave me an opportunity to help mold a little life.” – Lisa

“We had nothing – but six babies. It’s all just hard work that’s built this. Everything you do is to take care of your family, and you hope that they take care of you when you can’t do it anymore.” – Rita

Self-worth

I just want to feel good.” – Lisa

“When you’re confident, you feel empowered. You feel like you could take on the world no matter what people throw at you. You gotta give it right back and push forward. You can do whatever you put your mind to.” – Lisa

“Your life is your own. You’re responsible for your own happiness, and no one else can do that for you.” – Brandi

“At the end of the day, we have a finite amount of energy, time, money, etc., and I want to spend it on things that feel good to me. I’m not happy if I’m not being my authentic self.” – Brandi

“I love that I can go from sweatpants to dressing up and still feel like me inside. No matter what is on the outside, I’m still me, my character, my integrity, my core values.” – Bonnie

Inner Strength

“Women are strong. Sometimes we don’t quite understand where our strength lies – and how to tap into that. We can do whatever we want once we decide we want to do it.” – Stephanie

“I’ve learned that I’m stronger than I ever thought I was, that I can make my way through anything, and that I have a lot of power inside myself. I just want you to know that you should be really proud of who you are, the relationships you have, and the things you’ve done.” – Brandi

Years ago, I would have held it in and worried so much it would destroy me. Now, no matter how bad something is, you gotta find that piece of positive energy and build on it.” – Bonnie

“I’ve been through a lot of dark times in my life, and because I have, it’s just not acceptable to me to spend a lot of time doing things I don’t want to do.” – Brandi

About Sonja Gilhuys, Your Santa Clarita Family Photographer

With her two young boys as her muse, Sonja Gilhuys first picked up a camera because she didn’t want to miss a single moment of their childhoods. Everything changed after that, and Sonja quickly began photographing family and friends on a referral basis. In 2019, she joined the SchlickArt Photography & Video team as a Junior Photographer and Studio Assistant, and today, Sonja heads up our indoor/outdoor family line, SchlickArt Family Sessions by Sonja, which captures your family’s most precious moments with a candid yet polished style that looks as luxurious as the shoot feels.
