Whether it’s in the studio or out in the sunshine, a SchlickArt Family Is Fabulous Session is designed to capture the beauty of your family – inside and out! It’s also one of our special Sessions With Sonja – Developed by SchlickArt. When it comes to an outdoor session, what we really love is the versatility. You can capture a wide range of looks and moods without ever leaving your location.
For example, if you like the more traditional, formal family portraits – but prefer the outdoors – you can dress up your session and bring your finest attire to a rustic setting. We’ll pose you from head to toe to create a seamless look, just like we would in the studio. The juxtaposition is stunning, as the formal clothing against a light-and-airy outdoor scene makes your family really pop.
However, if you prefer the more natural “day in the life” vibe with candid moments and casual clothing, then an outdoor space is perfect, especially with young kids. Once you book your session, we’ll arrange a phone consultation to talk about your vision and answer all your questions. We’ll talk wardrobe, decide on a location, and figure out the overall mood and look you’re going for with this session. Leading up to the shoot, we love to plan down to the very last detail, and then on the day of your shoot, we leave plenty of room for spontaneous playtime and fun. That’s how we create a wide range of looks, from posed to candid, and ensure everyone has a good time.
After your session is done, we’ll arrange your Luxury Purchasing Session, when you can come to SchlickArt Studios and see all your images displayed in a beautiful slideshow. You can sit back and relax with champagne and chocolates, while we reminisce about the day and choose your favorite portraits.
Finally, we help you figure out the best ways to bring your gorgeous new family portraits into your life, by helping you plan a gallery wall, design elegant coffee table books, or create fun gift-worthy calendars and ornaments – whatever speaks to you!

First and foremost, we always make sure to take extra care of Mom – because we know she’s usually getting everyone else ready while trying to get herself ready, too. So we pay extra attention to her hair, makeup and posing, making adjustments and touch-ups when needed.
But we don’t just take care of Mom. We do everything in our power to keep the mood positive, the kids engaged, and the parents happy from beginning to end – even if that means chasing the kiddos around the park just to get that perfect candid shot.

3. Posing
We all want to look our best on camera. That’s why we make it easy to feel confident with customized posing instruction that takes you out of your head – and lets you simply relax and have fun.
We’ll guide you every step of the way, from where to stand to what to do with your hands. We’ll even lead your family through a couple deep breaths to help everyone settle and connect before the session starts. From there, we have a few tricks to help bring out genuine smiles and beautiful, loving expressions.
Even if you’re looking for a less posed and more candid style of shoot, this session is perfect. Sonja will run around with the kiddos to capture genuine playtime, while she encourages sibling love and gets everyone laughing. Your kids won’t even realize they’re in a photo shoot – and the photos will be all the proof you need.
About Sonja Gilhuys, Your Santa Clarita Family Photographer
With her two young boys as her muse, Sonja Gilhuys first picked up a camera because she didn’t want to miss a single moment of their childhoods. Everything changed after that, and Sonja quickly began photographing family and friends on a referral basis. In 2019, she joined the SchlickArt Photography & Video team as a Junior Photographer and Studio Assistant, and today, Sonja heads up our indoor/outdoor family line, SchlickArt Family Sessions by Sonja, which captures your family’s most precious moments with a candid yet polished style that looks as luxurious as the shoot feels.
