An SCV boudoir photographer explains why we need to recognize our beauty now more than ever. Here’s a little tough love from SchlickArt.
Boudoir, in its essence, is a celebration.
It celebrates your body, your confidence, your smile and your unique brand of sexy.
It captures the way you nurture and the way you love.
It’s a visual expression of who you are when all the layers are peeled back.
“And right now, I think we all need that more than ever,” explains SCV boudoir photographer Lindsay Schlick.
SCV Boudoir Photographer Explains:
3 Reasons Why You Need To Recognize Your Beauty – NOW
1. This version of you is incredible.
It’s so easy to get wrapped up in the idea of perfection, especially when it comes to boudoir. But on the contrary, boudoir is most empowering – most joyful – when we come just as we are.
In fact, the whole point of boudoir is to capture who you are right now, so you can see your beauty the way we do already – not the beauty you hope to become.
Because, right now, you are so incredibly beautiful. You’re juggling everyday stress while coping with extraordinary circumstances. You’re creating joy for your family and friends when the opportunities to do so are limited. You’re bravely soldiering on, even when you have no idea what tomorrow, next week or even next year might look like.
Not only do you deserve to celebrate yourself – but you deserve to celebrate this version of you right now. The warrior, the mama, the friend, the daughter, the homeschool teacher, the boss babe, who’s keeping it all together while the world is falling apart.
Seriously, what’s more beautiful than that?
2. You don’t “make” yourself beautiful. You just are.
Maybe your nails haven’t seen a manicure since February. Maybe you haven’t hit the treadmill more than 3 times all summer long. Maybe your lashes have been missing their extensions something fierce. I get it.
But that’s not what makes you beautiful!
It’s the way your curves look in that perfect sideways angle. The smirk of your smile when you know you’ve made a clever joke. The conviction deep in your eyes after you’ve overcome every challenge you could imagine plus the ones you never could have imagined just six months ago.
A true boudoir session celebrates YOU – not the things you do to “make” yourself beautiful.
You already are beautiful right now!
As they say, a diamond is a chunk of coal that did well under pressure. If you’re feeling the pressure, then maybe a chance to see your beauty – as it is now – is exactly what you need to keep you going.
And when it feels like life is dealing us fewer celebrations and more challenges, celebrating yourself exactly as you are is a powerful way to find the joy – no matter what.
3. It’s not about weight.
This might sound a little redundant – but it’s worth repeating. Why? Every single one of us wants to lose some amount of weight before we think we’re ready to step in front of the camera.
But I’m here to tell you don’t try to lose the “COVID 19.” Don’t wait until you’re in “better shape.” Don’t try to capture a version of you that’s inauthentic, unsustainable or … any less real than who you are in this moment.
If you show up for your shoot after two weeks of binge dieting, or even two months of dedicated two-a-days at the gym, you won’t look like the real you. Instead, you’ll look like the ultra-thin version of you, which may not be attainable during any other point in your life.
That means, when you look at your photos months or years later, you’ll see an unattainable version of yourself. Once again, you’re looking at yet another “perfect woman” who doesn’t feel like you.
Instead of pouring over those photos and remembering how damn sexy you are, you’ll once again deny your self-worth by thinking … but that’s not really me.
And that’s not empowering – or at least not as empowering as it could be.
4. The most valuable thing we have right now is the opportunity to feel good again.
Life has thrown us its fair share of curveballs this year. We’ve spent months not knowing what tomorrow may look like. In the meantime, each passing day brings a new headline or piece of news that threatens more change and uncertainty. It’s impossible not to get lost in the fear, confusion and despair. At least, for a time.
But here’s the thing – we cannot keep living this way.
Yes, the world may continue its chaos. But we don’t have to let that control our hearts and our minds.
Honestly, it’s time to stop putting our joy and happiness on hold. You deserve to feel beautiful and strong now more than ever.
We’re all in new territory. We’re all figuring it out as we go along. We’re all struggling in some way. That doesn’t mean we need to stop and focus on that struggle like it’s the only thing in our lives worth paying attention to – because it’s not.
After so many months of feeling bad, now is the time to focus on the things that make us feel good.
Because if not now, then when?
