Why Being Photogenic Is A Myth

At SchlickArt, we believe being photogenic is a myth. In fact, we have a few easy strategies that make everyone look and feel “photogenic.”

Have you never felt photogenic?

Maybe you’re never fully happy with the way you look in pictures.

Or whenever you smile for photos, it just comes out looking forced or inauthentic.

Well, we have some good news for you.

At SchlickArt, we believe being “photogenic” is a myth.

That’s right. It’s 100% possible to love the way you look on camera.

And if you haven’t loved the way you look thus far … it’s not your fault.

We’re debunking this common myth and shedding some light on what it really takes to love the way you look on camera.

Why Being Photogenic Is A Myth

Being Photogenic Is A Myth, how to be photogenic, is being photogenic a real thing, what causes people to be photogenic, the myth of being photogenic, photogenic, santa clarita photographer, santa clarita photography, santa clarita business photographer, santa clarita business photographyPhotography isn’t like looking into a mirror. It captures so much more. It captures your natural shape and the way your emotions light up your features. Even lighting and shadows play a role in how the camera picks up your angles and your movements.

And if you’re doing it right – that’s the whole point

The beauty of photography is that it captures all the sides of you that a two-dimensional mirror simply can’t. When used properly, the camera can see what makes you uniquely you.

So then why do some people feel photogenic, while others don’t?

Not all cameras, or photographers, are created equal. You see, you have to understand how to work the camera, as well as the subject, in order to make all the elements of photography work together

That’s when the magic happens. That’s when you can capture a person’s true beauty … and make them feel truly “photogenic.”

That’s also why, at SchlickArt, we believe there’s no such thing as being naturally “photogenic.” In fact, it’s not the subject’s responsibility to look good on camera – but the photographer’s responsibility to bring out the very best in the person they’re shooting.

In our studio, being “photogenic” is about who is taking the picture, not who’s in front of the camera, because a great photographer can bring out the best in everyone. In fact, at SchlickArt we have an entire system designed to do exactly that, from the moment you walk in the door until you receive your final retouched images.

Here are just a few ways we make you look like you … on your very best day.

1. Natural Light Photography

Being Photogenic Is A Myth, how to be photogenic, is being photogenic a real thing, what causes people to be photogenic, the myth of being photogenic, photogenic, santa clarita photographer, santa clarita photography, santa clarita business photographer, santa clarita business photography From the very beginning, natural light has been a key factor in the SchlickArt formula. Why? With its glowy white tones, natural light acts like nature’s best Instagram filter. It flatters flaws and forgives skin inconsistencies, all while illuminating your natural undertones.

Like our photography philosophy, natural light brings out the beautiful details that make you who you are, like eye color or the shape of your features, while diminishing the bits we don’t like, like skin pigmentation or dark circles.

In fact, every aspect of SchlickArt Studios is designed to optimize natural light in a way that makes skin look simply luscious. From reflective backdrop boards to sheer white curtains, every tool and prop is used to bounce light evenly and beautifully

2. Expert Posing

When Lindsay first started as a photographer, she photographed professional models, but she quickly realized she really wanted to shoot the everyday woman – and show her how beautiful she truly is. So what did Lindsay do? She figured out how to teach people how to pose like models.

Today, her simple, easy-to-follow posing instruction makes you feel like you know what you’re doing, and even better – it makes you look like it, too.

Here’s how it works. One step at a time, she’ll show you exactly how to position each part of your body, starting with your feet and moving all the way up to the tilt of your chin. All you have to do is mirror each movement as she does it. It’s like a game of “Simon Says” that everyone wins. Because by the time you see your photos, you’ll be stunned at what a difference the right angles can make.

3. Genuine Expressions

Being Photogenic Is A Myth, how to be photogenic, is being photogenic a real thing, what causes people to be photogenic, the myth of being photogenic, photogenic, santa clarita photographer, santa clarita photography, santa clarita business photographer, santa clarita business photography Just like Lindsay has a system to build the perfect pose, she also has a system to elicit the perfect expression. After all, there’s nothing more uniquely beautiful than your real, true smile … or even a sincere little smirk. That’s why we believe genuine expression is so important.

Here’s how it works. Since Lindsay doesn’t use flash photography, she can shoot rapid-fire to capture multiple images in the span of a second or two. That way, she’s capturing the entire range of your smile – from the small smirk, all the way up to a full grin, and back to neutral again. And somewhere in that range is the perfect smile – the one that’s big enough to be genuine but also relaxed enough to not seem forced.

Plus, she also has some fun sayings to elicit a true laughter. (But if you want to see what that’s all about, you’ll have to join us in the studio.)

4. Professional Hair & Makeup

Once we’ve got the basics covered, we focus on helping you look and feel your very best when you step in front of the camera. For some, that means hair and makeup services.

But here’s the thing. Hair and makeup for the camera is different from hair and makeup for the naked eye. That’s why we’ve searched far and wide for professional stylists who work in the entertainment industry. They understand how to create the perfect hair and makeup looks that also translate flawlessly on camera

If hair and makeup is your thing, you can book our red-carpet artists before your session. Come enjoy a relaxing sit in the makeup chair, while we get you pampered and ready for your session. Not only does it make you look your best, but this luxurious experience makes you feel good, too.

5. Styling Support

One of the most common questions we hear is: What should I wear?

Whether you can’t match your socks to save your life, or you’re on the verge of becoming a fashion influencer, there’s one important thing to remember: Clothes look different on camera.

That’s why, at SchlickArt, your photography session starts with a quick and creative styling session. Whether you bring a suitcase full of shoes (it’s happened) or a few simple selections, Lindsay is happy to go through your wardrobe with you. She knows color, shape and fabric like you know the ins and outs of your own field. So you’re not just getting a good photo – you’re getting a little bit of star treatment at the same time.

About Lindsay’s Photography for Women

With an eye for seeing the beauty in life and in others, Lindsay could use the camera to spread beauty.
