Why Boudoir Is More Than Just A Photo Shoot

Kirsten QuinnBoudoir

At SchlickArt, we believe boudoir is more than just a photo shoot. It’s an experience that’s completely up to you.

We’ve been doing boudoir photo shoots for a while now, and we’ve noticed – through our experiences and the testimonials of others – that it can be quite the transformative experience.

Of course, like anything else, you get out of it what you put in. That means, if you set out with the intention to find a new layer of confidence or self-love during a glamorous photo shoot, then you’ll most likely walk away with a beautiful, heaping dose of it.

In our experience, the most meaningful part is just deciding to go for it. It’s the act of choosing a beautiful experience for myself that makes it so much bigger than a photo shoot.

So what are you waiting for? Something else to change your life?

8 Reasons Why Boudoir Can Be More Than Just A Photo Shoot

1. You learn what true confidence feels like.

boudoir is more than just a photo shoot, santa clarita boudoir photo shoot, santa clarita boudoir photographer, santa clarita boudoir photography, boudoir photographer in santa clarita, boudoir photography in santa clarita, boudoir photo shoot in santa clarita, more than a boudoir shoot, scv boudoir photographer, scv boudoir photography What does it take for you to feel confident? Most of us think confidence comes from a few weeks of being “on your game.” You’re working out, eating healthy and feeling pretty good about your commitment this time. You might even hit a stride and reward yourself with a new dress or a girls night out. But eventually the workouts become less frequent, you fall for a cookie (or two), and your stride starts to disappear. Big surprise – your newfound confidence goes with it.

Why? All that effort might make you feel like fire for a night or even a few weeks. But you’re chasing an idea of beauty that you don’t live in every day

You see, most of us have been taught to think that confidence comes from working out, eating healthy, dressing to the nines, and showing it off for as long as it lasts. We think it comes from being physically and emotionally at our best. And, yes, that does create confidence.

But we also have seasons – seasons when we aren’t our best. We miss the gym, so we can put our kids first. We skip a mani-pedi to save some cash. Or we go through something tough, and we choose to slow down.

So how do you hold onto that sense of confidence, even when you’re not at your best? You get confident about who you are right now. You let go of the goal weight and embrace the happy weight. You trade perfection and idealism for acceptance and appreciation. You take the chance to celebrate yourself just because you can – not because you hit some arbitrary target.

True and lasting confidence happens when you get brave enough to see yourself the way you are right now – without the two-week crash diet.

2. It gives you a fresh perspective on you

Boudoir is like a fresh perspective for your body image. Why? Let’s get something straight. Your mirror and your iPhone are way less flattering than Lindsay’s camera, and they’re also full of lies: bad lighting, amateur posing and that insecure look on your face as you shudder and say: “Is THAT what I look like?” NO! Actually, that’s not what you look like. But why would you believe anything else? That’s what you see, and you don’t have anything better to compare it to.

Looking at pictures of yourself in lingerie and being genuinely blown away by how good you look is a weird feeling, simply because you don’t have the tools at home to do it yourself. But Lindsay’s covered all the bases to make sure she’s capturing the real you.

She knows how to use the camera to capture your best angles, the sparkle of a genuine smile, and the glow of your skin when the light hits it perfectly. She can help you see you the way the rest of the world sees you – instead of staring into the reflection of a flat mirror.

Don’t you want to know what that version of you looks like?

3. It will make you feel beautiful.

boudoir is more than just a photo shoot, santa clarita boudoir photo shoot, santa clarita boudoir photographer, santa clarita boudoir photography, boudoir photographer in santa clarita, boudoir photography in santa clarita, boudoir photo shoot in santa clarita, more than a boudoir shoot, scv boudoir photographer, scv boudoir photography Here’s one thing the world gets wrong about a woman’s beauty: You’re not just one kind of beautiful. All our lives, people try to put us in boxes. Maybe they label you the girl-next-door kind of pretty, so you play the part. Or maybe you’ve been trying to fit into the latest trends for years, when you’re actually more of an elegant, vintage sort of beauty. Maybe you’ve recently realized you feel more you in a braid, T-shirt and jeans than you do when you get all dolled up.

Regardless of your previous typecasting, the truth is we are all things. You can be innocently pretty, understatedly beautiful and dangerously sexy – all with a simple outfit change! Then tomorrow, you can be classically beautiful, too.

The magic of boudoir is it invites you to see all the different sides to your beauty. In fact, the whole point is to play with different looks and see how they make you feel. You might even find a side to yourself you didn’t know was there. And what’s a better confidence boost than learning there’s more to you than you even thought possible?

After all, feeling beautiful is really, truly important. There’s a reason good hair days are good days. When you feel beautiful, the world looks beautiful.

4. It invites you to redefine what sexy means to you.

boudoir is more than just a photo shoot, santa clarita boudoir photo shoot, santa clarita boudoir photographer, santa clarita boudoir photography, boudoir photographer in santa clarita, boudoir photography in santa clarita, boudoir photo shoot in santa clarita, more than a boudoir shoot, scv boudoir photographer, scv boudoir photography Whether you’ve never met your sexy side or you can’t even turn it off at the grocery store, you know how much the desire to feel sexy shows up in our daily lives –  from picking your outfit to ordering the healthy option at lunch.

But that sexy feeling is fickle. As we change, it changes, too. Our bodies, complexions and even our hair changes as we age. Our relationships change, which affects how we see ourselves. And our definition of sexy changes as we begin to associate it with bigger ideas, like success or finding yourself or being a good mom.

What’s great about boudoir is it asks you to define what’s sexy to you right now. You see, once you decide to go for it, there are a whole bunch of fun, exciting things to think about.

Do you want to wear the piece of lingerie that makes you feel most comfortable? Or maybe your shoot is going to show a different side of you, with the skimpiest lingerie, smokiest eyes and craziest hair. You could also wear your partner’s shirt, sweater or sports gear. Or maybe you want to wear your own sports gear because that’s when you feel the strongest. Suddenly, you have too many ideas.

By the end of the brainstorming process alone, you’ve come up with all these different parts of your that are sexy enough to put in front of a camera. You’ve thought about sexiness in a new way … the way that only you can be it. With no one else in the picture – like that Insta model or your friend who always looks like she stepped out of a catalog – you only have to think what makes you sexy.

Have you ever been asked to consider that before? Well, now you have. And you have a new definition of sexy to replace the one that magazines and the Kardashians teach us on a daily basis.

5. It teaches you it’s not about the weight.

Whether you’re losing it, gaining it or just obsessing over it, weight is something we all think about. And it’s so easy to shift from being conscious about our relationships with our bodies … to fixating on that relationship.

But here’s the thing: Your weight, size or shape is not the end-all be-all of your beauty. Yes, it’s part of what makes you beautiful, but you are so much more than your weight. The way your body moves. The way your smile lights up your face. The look in your eyes when you feel truly confident. Those are parts of your beauty that, sometimes, get lost or forgotten when we fixate exclusively on our weight.

You see, boudoir is not about the weight. It’s about shifting the relationship you have with your body by seeing how beautiful it is right now. In fact, I think it’s more empowering to shoot boudoir when you’re not at your “best weight.” If you show up to a boudoir shoot after two weeks of binge dieting, or even two months of dedicated two-a-days at the gym, you won’t look like the typical you. Instead, you’ll look like the ultra-thin version of you, which may not be attainable during most points in your life.

That means, when you look at your photos months or years later, you’ll see an unattainable version of yourself. Once again, you’re looking at yet another “perfect woman” who doesn’t feel like you

Instead of pouring over those photos and remembering how damn sexy you are, you’ll once again deny your self-worth by thinking … but that’s not really me. And that’s not empowering – or at least not as empowering as it could be.

6. It encourages unconditional self-love.

We all have bits we love about ourselves and bits we’d rather not draw attention to, right? Well, when you’re dressed to the nines in lingerie, those “trouble spots” can feel pretty exposed. That’s when we, as women, really start to pick on ourselves. Whether your thighs are your lifelong nemeses, or you feel the need to point out your cellulite so others don’t do it first, we all have those parts of our bodies that we’re extra sensitive about.

Unfortunately, that sensitivity usually comes with a whole mess of negative thoughts about our self-image. Think about it – every time you say you hate your stomach, you’re re-affirming that your body is problematic or shameful. But you still have to live in that body every day. So you’re carrying around that negativity all the time

But what if you were taking photos with a different goal? What if the whole point of stepping in front of the camera was to celebrate the gorgeous natural curves of your body? Now that’s an entirely different kind of experience – one that doesn’t set you up for disappointment the way a typical selfie might. It’s a place to take photographs that celebrate every part of you – instead of how you’re “supposed to” look.

You see, changing the way you perceive your own imperfections could change the way you treat yourself and others. After all, we love others the way we’re taught to love ourselves, right? So isn’t it about time we love ourselves unconditionally?

7. It’s a well-deserved moment of pampering.

boudoir is more than just a photo shoot, santa clarita boudoir photo shoot, santa clarita boudoir photographer, santa clarita boudoir photography, boudoir photographer in santa clarita, boudoir photography in santa clarita, boudoir photo shoot in santa clarita, more than a boudoir shoot, scv boudoir photographer, scv boudoir photography With all the other more transformational side effects, this one might seem a little less important. But for most of the women we know, a moment of total luxury and pampering is an absolute special occasion

Most of us are out there trying to be superwoman every day. We’re out there working toward our dreams, building our careers, raising our kids, keeping our marriages alive and trying to save the world – all at once! There’s no time to slow down – nonetheless actually take a minute to relax while someone else pours you a glass of Champagne.

But when you walk into SchlickArt Studios, you are the one being served. This is your day to relax, take a break from the chaos and needs of others, and do nothing else but simply celebrate yourself

From the moment you arrive, we’ll be serving you bubbly by the glass and handfuls of handmade chocolate truffles. All you have to do is sit in the makeup chair and envision your sexiest look yet. Add a fan in your hair, and it’s basically a dream come true.

Whatever you want, we’ll make it happen at SchlickArt Studios – so you don’t even have to lift a finger. Because that’s what you deserve.

8. It puts you first.

Putting yourself first is a special kind of magic – but putting yourself without anyone else’s permission is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that few women are brave enough to ask for.

But when you do, when you ask for something just because it makes you feel good, that experience takes on a whole new meaning. You and you alone get to choose that meaning. And we have to say, that choice feels pretty damn empowering. It puts you in charge, and it reminds you of what you deserve

More importantly, that feeling will last in your mind like muscle memory, as an example of what an empowered relationship with yourself can really feel like. It triggers a tidal wave of positive change within you that manifests in big waves and small ripples throughout your life – as much or as little as you’ll invite. It encourages you to do more things that make you happy. It alleviates the guilt of doing things for yourself. It shows you and others that you’re willing to take a chance on yourself and your own happiness.

And most importantly, it’s a feeling you’ll never forget – no matter what comes next.

About Lindsay’s Photography for Women

With the mind of a businesswoman and the heart of an artist, Lindsay began to conceive of a different kind of Santa Clarita photography business. In her vision, stepping in front of the camera could be an empowering experience that gave her clients more than just a photograph — it would give people a new way of seeing themselves. With an eye for seeing the beauty in life and in others, Lindsay could use the camera to spread beauty.
