Santa Clarita photographer Lindsay Schlick was recognized by world renowned photographer Sue Bryce … and you’ll never guess how it happened.
August 15 started out as any normal day at SchlickArt. But by lunchtime, it quickly became an extraordinary day for us.
Let’s start at the beginning.
A few weeks ago, we were wrapping up a 16-hour shoot for the beautiful Denise and John Lite’s wedding. The night had come to an end, but their amazing wedding planner, Laura Seguin of Moments 2 Memories Weddings & Events, was only just getting started.
Immediately after the wedding, Laura was hopping in the car to drive down to Palm Springs, where she was going to meet a potential wedding client early the next morning. Since it was already 11 p.m., so we complimented her hustle and wished her a safe drive.
Fast forward to August 15. Lindsay was casually checking a members-only Facebook group hosted by world renowned photographer Sue Bryce, who has been Lindsay’s mentor and role model in the portrait photography world since SchlickArt began.
Sue Bryce is arguably the biggest name in portrait photography education today. An accomplished photographer and passionate educator, she teaches up-and-coming photographers everything, from photography skills to running a profitable business. Her influential style is considered the gold standard in portrait photography, and she’s made her mark on the industry by teaching others how to shoot in this particular style.
So when Lindsay logged into the Facebook group to see her name called out by Sue Bryce, she nearly died. In fact, when Brian heard Lindsay screaming from downstairs, he thought she might actually be dying. But when he ran down to see what was going on, he found Lindsay smiling from ear to ear.
At the top of her Facebook feed was a personal shoutout from Sue Bryce, commending Lindsay’s incredible portrait photography. Sue Bryce wrote:
“I hired a wedding planner. She is awesome, and when she emailed me, she had a great profile shot. I emailed back and said: ‘Who is your photographer? It looks like one of mine.’ Lindsay Helen Schlick — GREAT WORK, love her profile shot. Very proud moment.”
When wedding planner Laura Seguin left Denise & John Lite’s wedding to see a potential client in Palm Springs, she was driving to meet with Sue Bryce, and by the next morning, Laura had unknowingly booked a wedding with one of the biggest photographers in the country.
And when Laura emailed Sue the details, Laura’s headshot — taken by Lindsay — was included in the email signature. Sue Bryce immediately recognized her signature style in Laura’s headshot and emailed back, asking for her photographer’s name.
Sue told Laura it was a proud moment to see one of her former students’ doing such great work — and to see it on her wedding planner’s email signature. Shortly after that, Sue Bryce wrote the amazing shoutout on Facebook, for all her other students to see.
