Moms are always telling us something, right? But when was the last time you took a second to really listen?

At SchlickArt, we get to see a different side of Mom.

We see Mom come in for her professional headshots, dressed to kill in a blazer and heels.

We see Mom for her family portraits, dripping in jewelry with her joyous family around her.

We see Mom when she wants to feel like a woman again … and slips into something lacy for boudoir.

One of the most beautiful things about working at SchlickArt is the rare opportunity to see Mom from every angle, as she does it all.

That’s also why, at SchlickArt, we’re in on a pretty big Mom secret.

Moms know a lot about love, life, family, beauty and confidence — basically all the truly important things in life. So we wanted to share some of the lovely insights that only we get to hear behind the camera.

10 Things The Moms Of SchlickArt Want You To Know

  1. Their families are their “why.”

Moms, Mom is fabulous, mom photography, photography for moms, mom photography session, mom photo session, mom photoshoot, photo shoot for moms“Family is everything to me,” says SchlickArt mom Dawn Rudisel. “If I didn’t have my husband, my kids and my grandkids, it would be really tough to get up every morning. They are why I do what I do.”

  1. And that kind of love can change the world.

“At the end of the day, family is just loving people. That ability to just love anyway, even if it’s hard, if you have the ability and the courage to do that, it can change you. That makes an impact. It makes an impact on our family, and it makes an impact on the world,” says SchlickArt mom Andrea De La Cerda.

  1. But they don’t forget to celebrate their themselves, either.

“They’re also why I shop where I shop,” Dawn said with a big laugh. “I shop a lot for my kids and my grandkids, but I also shop a lot for myself.”

“I wanted to do something outside of the box,” says SchlickArt mom Lisa Odom of her glamour photography experience. “I wanted to do something that made me feel beautiful and sexy, something that was the outward expression of how I’ve been feeling inside. I’m done giving myself a hard time. I’m just going to love me for me. I’m going to believe in myself and believe in the beauty that is my spirit.”

“It’s nice to be able to put on makeup, to do your hair, so that you feel good about yourself — not to impress anybody else but to impress yourself,” says SchlickArt mom Lisa Ballentine. “It’s nice to just to feel good.”

  1. Beauty really is on the inside.

“Beauty is not about how you look on the outside; it’s about how you feel on the inside because that’s what you portray to the world,” Lisa O. says. “It’s about saying, ‘I’m done giving myself a hard time. I’m just going to accept me for me.”

  1. And it takes a conscious choice to see your own.

“I used to lie awake at night and wish I could just unzip my body, and this beautiful woman would emerge. All of her problems would be solved, and the world would be her oyster,” says Lisa O. “To that woman, I would say I never needed to unzip that body because the beauty was always there. It was always within me.”

  1. Confidence is a journey.

“When you’re confident, you feel empowered,” says Lisa B. “You feel like you can take on the world, no matter what people throw at you. You can do whatever you put your mind to.”

“Confidence is about conquering, knowing you can overcome anything that comes your way, whether it’s a challenge with your children or something in your career — or you see a dimple on your body. You still say I’m sexy and beautiful, and I’m going to own it. It’s definitely a journey to get there.”

  1. Capturing your beauty is part of that journey.

  1. Their children are their legacy.

“Leaving your story, or your imprint, on your kids and grandkids — I think about that all the time,” says Dawn R.

“What I get back out of watching them become good humans is: ‘Oh, I had something to do with that. Those years of sacrifice were worth it,” Andrea D. says.

  1. And photos capture that legacy in all it’s beauty.

“I want to make sure I left a legacy for my kids and my grandkids, so they remember: ‘Yeah that was Mom,” says Dawn R.

“I want to take pictures that I’ve never been able to take before. I want to have a nice picture to give to my daughter,” says Lisa B.

“These photos are for my kids and their kids. I want them to look back at these photos and remember their mom for what I was able to teach them,” says Andrea D.

  1. The process has changed them.

“The Lisa I was 5 years ago was very insecure, very unsure of herself. But I’m getting better and better and better. It’s just time to say: ‘This is the new me,” and forge ahead. This is the Lisa I am today,” says Lisa O.

  1. And they want you to experience it, too.

“Don’t ever listen to those who doubt you. Enjoy the things you like to do, and be glad you did it. No regrets.”

About Lindsay’s Photography for Women

With the mind of a businesswoman and the heart of an adventurer, Lindsay began to conceive of a different kind of Santa Clarita photography business. In her vision, stepping in front of the camera could be an empowering experience that gave her clients more than just a photograph — it would give people a new way of seeing themselves. With an eye for seeing the beauty in life and in others, Lindsay could use the camera to spread beauty.

About SchlickArt Photography and Video

SchlickArt, a boutique photo and video studio in Santa Clarita, started in March 2012 with the simple idea that empowerment creates a kind of beauty and authenticity that shines through every camera lens. Built on a philosophy — rather than a product, service or person — SchlickArt has rapidly evolved, meeting professional portraiture, business photo and business video needs as diverse as the community we capture. It’s the desire to take care of you, the client, that drives us at SchlickArt.
