5 Ways Boudoir Encourages Self-Love

What is self-love? And how can stripping your clothes off for a camera help you find it? Here are 5 unexpected ways boudoir makes you feel like a goddess.

This Valentine’s Day, you may have seen a bigger focus on self-love than ever before. Rather than being solely about romantic relationships, this Valentine’s Day is increasingly becoming a day about love in general.

Galentine’s Day has become a way to celebrate friendships, as well as romantic relationships, and whether you’re celebrating with a honey or not, social media has been flooded with reminders to spend the day loving yourself.

Along with this beautiful self-love movement, there’s been a new focus on body positivity, which we absolutely love here at SchlickArt. What does self-love and body positivity mean? Simply loving the body you’re in. It means embracing the body you have now, rather than waiting to love the body you think you’ll have one day.

That’s what we do here every day at SchlickArt. In fact, that’s the mission we’re founded on: to show you the beauty we see in you. To provide proof — with your gorgeous images — that you’re perfect right now, just the way you are.

And there is no shoot that creates more self-love and acceptance than a boudoir session.

Now that may seem counterintuitive at first. Stripping off your clothes and baring it all is going to make you feel MORE confident?

YES, girl. Yes, it absolutely will. Here’s why:

5 Ways Boudoir Encourages Self-Love

  1. Boudoir Inspires You To See Yourself Differently

Sometimes we’re so critical of what we see in the mirror that we end up avoiding it completely. We don’t know our own bodies, and we hate looking at them. To turn those feelings around, one of the first things you’ll want to do is just begin seeing yourself.

And this process starts before the shoot. While you’re picking out lingerie, trying on pieces, and playing with different looks, try treating the mirror like a friend. Keep positive thoughts in your mind as you look at yourself and appreciate all the beautiful parts you like. Give yourself compliments. Pour a glass of Champagne. Create some flattering light in your room. Have fun with the experience of seeing yourself this way.

  1. Boudoir Asks You To Be Vulnerable

Now, as the shoot day gets closer, you may start to feel increasingly nervous or unsure of yourself because — here’s the thing — boudoir takes some vulnerability. It’s no small task to pose in your bra and panties for a camera.

But when the moment comes, and you step on set for the first time, the nervousness only last a second. And then you feel this overwhelming sense of calm and … fun … wash over you. By being vulnerable enough to do a boudoir session, you’re freeing yourself from all the insecurity and negativity. There’s nothing to hide anymore. And you’ll realize that being vulnerable can actually be an incredibly empowering experience.

  1. Boudoir Celebrates Curves

What’s the goal in those pictures? If we’re being honest with ourselves, ladies, it’s usually to look as cute and skinny as possible. And that’s a really hard standard to live up to all the time.

But what if you were taking photos with a different goal? What if the whole point of stepping in front of the camera was to celebrate the gorgeous natural curves of your body? Now that’s an entirely different kind of experience — one that doesn’t set you up for disappointment the way a group selfie with all your girls might. It’s a place to take photographs that celebrate who you are now — instead of how you’re “supposed to” look.

  1. Boudoir Shows You Your Best Side

Now, you may have heard us mention before that we built this company with a purpose: to help seemingly ordinary people see the extraordinary beauty in themselves. And photographers are in a perfect position to help you do that. Why? We see the way your smile lights up your face, the charm in your unique mannerisms. We see the beauty in all your angles. And that’s exactly what we’re going to show you when you see your images at SchlickArt.

Our boudoir sessions are meant to highlight the bits you love about yourself, and flatter the bits you don’t love quite as much — so you end up loving the whole picture. And that’s what self-love really comes down to, finding a way to see yourself that makes you love what you’re looking at.

  1. Boudoir Surprises You

Once you’ve gone through the entire experience of a boudoir shoot, the self-acceptance only continues, especially once you see your images. Because boudoir will surprise you. When you look at your images and see how incredibly gorgeous you look, just as you are, you are forced to let in a new perspective. You’re forced to realize that you actually look good naked! Seriously! These images are actual proof of your sexiness. And you — the one person who probably denies it the most — can no longer say you’re not gorgeous.

The best part about being surprised by your own good looks is it validates the entire process: the vulnerability, the trust, the self-love, the acceptance, all of it! You were able to put yourself out there, and it paid off. That’s why there’s really no better way to celebrate yourself, and create some genuine self-love, than in a safe environment where you know you’re going to love the end result: YOU.

With an eye for seeing the beauty in life and in others, Lindsay could use the camera to spread beauty.
