Whenever Melanie Meyer books a session at SchlickArt, we know it’s going to be a fabulous one. Her style is drop-dead gorgeous, and she never even hesitates when Lindsay asks her to dance for the camera. Melanie Meyer is a beautiful example of how good it can look to capture your own legacy.
Meet Melanie Meyer
As an amazing Financial Planner, local philanthropic supporter, cancer survivor and gorgeous wife to her husband, Jeff, Melanie Meyer is a joy and an inspiration every time we get to photograph her. In her professional life, she’s a Hall of Fame Financial Planner for Thrivent Financial with more than 27 years of experience in comprehensive financial planning, portfolio development and management, retirement income strategies, charitable and legacy planning, college funding planning and planning for women after the loss of a partner through death or divorce. When she’s not working, Melanie likes to travel with Jeff, work in her garden, cook, volunteer, play with her grandsons, Krash and Karvey, and sing in her church Praise Band and local rock groups in Santa Clarita.
Behind the Scenes: From Business To Personal
As longtime SchlickArt clients, Melanie and Jeff have experienced many different types of sessions – from both our business photography line and personal photography line. Melanie has experienced our Professional Portraits, Over 50 & Fabulous and Family Is Fabulous sessions, in addition to our Custom Video Subscription.
So we had to ask: What do the Meyers do with all of their beautiful images?
“I have a photo book of my #MelanieStrong images,” she explained of a portrait session she did while she was fighting Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2019. “That one was so important – I knew I needed to create a book and put it out somewhere where I could see it. If they’re just on my phone, I don’t end up seeing them.”
Jeff and Melanie also have family portraits and individual portraits hung on the walls of their home and office. Professionally, they use their images on their website, social accounts and marketing.
“I really like having that kind of variety,” Melanie explained.
Melanie’s Tip: Capture Your Legacy
Melanie grew up in a family that took a lot of pictures, which allowed her to feel more comfortable in front of the camera.
“That nervous or self-conscious feeling people get in front of the camera, I never really felt that,” Melanie explained. She added that her sense of confidence is part of what allows her to just relax and have fun – but Lindsay helps, too.
“Lindsay just knows how to make you feel relaxed,” Melanie said. “I always have fun when she’s behind the camera.”
But it’s not just about the experience for Melanie; it’s also about the documentation of life’s most significant moments.
“We often take for granted how much we’ve accomplished or the things we’ve done. We forget what those experiences felt like after a while. But I want to remember, even the difficult times. I don’t want to push those experiences out of my memory because the growth that came from them feels like a blessing now. That’s why I like to capture the journey.”
