Engagement Video: The 2018 Wedding Trend We Love

Kirsten QuinnWedding/Engagement

What’s engagement video? At SchlickArt in Santa Clarita, it doesn’t just record your most beautiful moments; it captures the love story in between.

Its special kind of magic is contagious, catching fire in every area of your life, as your lifelong dreams suddenly seem more than possible — but close enough to touch. It’s like walking around with a Mariah Carey soundtrack playing in the background. That one pretty ring invites you to believe in things youd forgotten, like hope and faith and forever. It changes everything, and for once, you’re grateful to have your whole world turned upside down.

A place you’ll never be able to return to, but you always hope to remember. As time goes on, marriage becomes deeper, richer. It progresses with each passing day, just like a story with each turned page.

Much of what goes into wedding planning is fueled by the desire to hold onto all of this, to capture the feelings and preserve them. To always remember how good it feels. And to share it with the people who love you most.

That’s why we’re in love with a new wedding trend in 2018: engagement video.

What’s Engagement Video?

It’s a natural evolution of the engagement photography session. While you’re shooting your engagement photos, you’ll also be captured on video.

It shows more than the way you look at each other — it captures the moments in between. Love is dynamic, afterall. One minute you’re cracking up, and the next minute, that sexy smile leads to a deep appreciation of the person across from you. Video allows you to capture the story between the moments.

At ShlickArt, we strive to document your story, and all its beautiful faces. So a SchlickArt engagement video also contains something special: interviews. Now, you might see the word “interview” and pull the blanket over your head. But I gotta tell you, there’s nothing more beautiful than telling the person you love why you love him. Better yet, it just feels good! When you get past the camera jitters, the reward is your vows — on video.

Don’t believe me? Just try to watch this without crying.

How Does It Work?

In typical SchlickArt fashion, engagement sessions include both photography and video. For photo, we offer a “Glam the Dress” option. Using one of your wardrobe changes, you get to hop into your wedding dress, put the fan on your hair and feel absolutely gorgeous. Then, you use the rest of your shoot for photographs of the two of you. While Lindsay shoots photos, Brian shoots video.

We invite you to share the story of how you met, how you knew it was love, how he proposed and more. Some couples, however, opt to do their interviews separately, and they share their messages with each other on the big day. Most couples choose to show their completed video to their guests during the reception, as well. It’s always a huge hit.

Why Choose Engagement Video?

There’s a reason weddings have become such a production: Today, marriages mean something different than they did a generation ago. We’ve seen a period of rising divorce rates, and in response, many of us have chosen to write our own definition of love and commitment. We know it takes work, constant growth and, above all, commitment. We don’t just want to stay married but stay happily married in a way that fulfills and expands us.

In the wake of financial insecurity, I think many of us realized that love is one of the most valuable things we have — and we want to be able to count on it. We’ve raised the stakes on love, and rightfully so, we want to celebrate it with the grandeur it deserves.

Besides, at the end of the day, what do we really have to be proud of besides the way we love each other?
