Your Santa Clarita wedding photographer is more than a camera whiz — there’s a whole lot more going on behind that lens.
Your ceremony is moments away. You’re holding back tears, so you don’t screw up your makeup. One of your bridesmaids is already too drunk, and everyone is asking you how you are — like you’re one shaky step away from a total meltdown.
Keep it together, you tell yourself. Remember why you’re here.
Then you feel the light touch of your photographer’s hand on your shoulder. She smiles.
I’m right here, she says. I’m right behind you all the way. Let’s take a deep breath.
Ready? You share one last smile. You take your father’s arm, and you put one foot in front of the other. Just like that, you’ve walked into the rest of your gorgeous life.
As any happy bride knows, your wedding photographer is so much more than the girl with the camera. She’s the constant, the rock, you can count on throughout the journey. The one who’s done this a million times before. The one who always sees the big picture of your big day.
Here are three non-photography hats we think every wedding photographer should wear — in Santa Clarita and beyond.
The Bride Guard
Whether it’s love, stress, envy or support, everyone wants to throw their emotions at you on your wedding day; meanwhile, all you’re trying to do is keep your own emotions from making your head and heart explode!
Cue your Santa Clarita wedding photographer.
One thing almost everyone can agree on, however, is that no one wants to get in the way of your perfect wedding photos. That makes your wedding photographer uber powerful, and at SchlickArt, Lindsay uses that power to your advantage.
Feeling overwhelmed? Lindsay will steal you away for a few deep breaths and detail shots. Is everyone arguing over your hair and makeup? Let the photographer have the final word (i.e. YOUR word) on the matter. After all, she is the expert, right?
As a wedding photographer, Lindsay says, your job is as much about protecting the bride’s happiness and calm as it is about capturing the moment. Why? If the moments are tense, then so are the photos.
The Bridesmaid Wrangler
Ah, bridal parties. There’s always a wild card in the bunch. And guess whose job it is to wrangle her? Someone has to get all your crazy bridesmaids and groomsmen in one place, and it’s definitely not the bride. Your wedding photographer should be like the legendary cowgirl of weddings: quick to control a herd of (drunk) animals without spooking them.
Now, many times, bridesmaids and groomsmen aren’t keen to be whisked away from their afternoon of fun to stand in line and pose for photos. It’s a delicate balance to keep the day fun without missing any of the key shots. But it’s totally doable, Lindsay says.
“A photographer is also a producer on your wedding day,” she said. “Imagine all the moving parts of producing a TV show. A wedding day is similar. You can’t simply focus on the photography; you have to be confident enough in your photography skills to also spend time and energy creating an experience for the couple and their guests.”
The Timekeeper Extraordinaire
Possibly the most important “side skill” of a wedding photographer is her ability to manage and follow the timeline. Some photographers take more control of this than others, as other vendors also need to weigh in on the couple’s time throughout the day. Again, it’s a balancing act of sharing the couple while also moving things along to stay on track. But trust us, you’ll be so glad to have someone else in charge of your timeline, so all you have to do is follow along.
“The timeline is an essential focus for the photographer because of lighting,” Lindsay explained. “We know when the window is for the most gorgeous light of the day, so we have to work with all the other demands on your time to make sure we get you during that window.”
SchlickArt Engagement & Wedding Services
At SchlickArt, everything we shoot has a touch of romance in it because we see the love and beauty in the everyday, and in everyone. Let us sweep you off your feet, with our signature SchlickArt style.
We do our engagement photography in studio, to capture the most gorgeous, glowy light possible. We want to be there for you on your big day, and that task sees no limits in our eyes.
About SchlickArt Photography and Video
SchlickArt, a boutique photo and video studio in Santa Clarita, started in March 2012 with the simple idea that empowerment creates a kind of beauty and authenticity that shines through every camera lens. Built on a philosophy — rather than a product, service or person — SchlickArt has rapidly evolved, meeting professional portraiture, business photo and business video needs as diverse as the community we capture. It’s the desire to take care of you, the client, that drives us at SchlickArt. And as your Santa Clarita photographer, we never forget that.
About Your Santa Clarita Wedding Photographer
With the mind of a businesswoman and the heart of an adventurer, Santa Clarita wedding photographer Lindsay Schlick began to conceive of a different kind of Santa Clarita wedding photography. In her vision, stepping in front of the camera could be an empowering experience that gave her clients more than just a photograph — it would give people a new way of seeing themselves. With an eye for seeing the beauty in life and in others, Lindsay could use the camera to spread beauty, and that philosophy has guided her as a Santa Clarita wedding photographer, from day one.
